Have you ever been waiting for a client to pay an invoice so you can pay a bill of your own? Cashflow can be challenging as a freelancer!
To take on this financial roller coaster, we pay a starting hourly advance of $16 per hour for hours worked (interest-free, obviously). The idea is that this advance can get you through until your client payments hit.
Pay days are every other Friday, and pay-periods are two weeks (Sunday-Saturday).
Here’s an example of how it works:
Julie worked 80 hours during the first pay-period and 75 hours during the second. Julie’s hourly advance would be $1,280 for the first pay-period and $1,200 for the second. Her client also made a $7,000 payment during the month.
At the beginning of each month, revenue splits are calculated. Julie’s portion of the revenue split (62%) is $4,340, and of that, she pays back what was fronted to her for the hourly pay ($4,340 - $1,200 - $1,280 = $1,860). This amount will be spread over the following pay-periods.
Even though Julie’s revenue split is 62% instead of 100%, she takes home about $170 more per month than when she was 1099- and she can spend all of it (no need to save for quarterly tax payments).
Visit the Details page to learn more about how that works.
If you typically receive large payments a few times per year, we can help you spread them out over a longer period of time so you have consistent earnings each pay-period.

Have you ever been injured on the job? It can be scary, especially when you realize that it could put you out of work for an extended period of time for the healing process. That’s why it’s so important to us that you are covered!
Workers Compensation provides financial support for medical expenses and time lost due to a workplace injury.
While we do the best we can to promote and encourage safe work environments, injuries can still happen.

Yes, Guild Members are entitled to unemployment just like traditional W-2 workers.
If the market changes (or a pandemic occurs), leaving you suddenly out of work, you could qualify for financial support while you transition or pivot.
Unemployment payments are determined by the state, and you can find more on the Oregon Employment Department’s site.
The Benefits
We’ve seen time and again how a lack of benefits can be a huge setback for self-employers.
Our entire goal is to provide Guild Members with the benefits, perks, and protections we wish we had 10 years ago when we started freelancing!
Some of the benefits listed may be new to you, so we’ve included some details about each.
If you still have questions, feel free to Contact us.
The Self-Employer’s Hierarchy of Needs
-
If you’re laughing at the word “abundance” because you can’t even imagine getting to the top of this list, THIS MESSAGE IS FOR YOU.
We’ve felt like retirement was out of reach, too. The only times we’ve ever contributed to our own retirement was when it was being matched by our employer- because it was money up for grabs.
So we are creating that same situation for YOU.
Please invest in your future. If you do, we will MATCH your contribution up to 3%. So if you only invest 3% of your earnings towards your retirement, you’re getting 6%!Yes, for real.
Start thinking about Future You, not only Present You. Both versions are important.
Abound!
